यह जीवन क्या है? निर्झर है, मस्ती ही इसका पानी है। सुख-दुःख के दोनों तीरों से, चल रहा राह मनमानी है। कब फूटा गिरि के अंतर से? किस अंचल से यह निकला है? किस घाटी से बह कर आया? किस समतल में यह फिसला है? आगे बढ़ता, जाता बढ़ता, केवल अविरल ही बढ़ता है। रुकने का नाम नहीं लेता, यह अपनी धुन में रमता है।

English Translation

What is this life? A waterfall it is, Joy alone its waters comprise. Between the two banks of sorrow and bliss, It flows along its self-willed guise. When did it burst from the mountain's heart? From what region did it emerge? Through which valley did it flow apart? Over what plains did it surge? It moves forward, keeps on flowing, Only ceaselessly it does proceed. It never considers stopping, Lost in its own determined creed.
