शांत स्निग्ध ज्योत्स्ना उज्ज्वल, अपलक अनंत नीरव भूतल। सैकत शैया पर दुग्ध धवल, तनु अनंगिनी गंगा निर्मल, लेटी है श्रान्त, क्लान्त, निश्चल! तापस बाला गंगा निर्मल, शशि-मुख से दीपित मृदु करतल, लहरें उर पर कोमल कुंतल।

Calm, soft, bright moonlight, The endless, silent earth gazes unwinkingly. On a sandy bed, milk-white, The pure Ganga, a body without form, Lies weary, tired, motionless! The ascetic maiden, pure Ganga, Her soft palms illuminated by the moon-face, Waves on her breast like tender locks of hair.
